Highlights
- Star Wars Outlaws will feature plenty of familiar cameos, including Jabba the Hutt, to immerse fans in its expansive universe.
- The game will take place between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, potentially showcasing lesser-known characters alongside fan favorites.
- The inclusion of the iconic Cantina Band in Chalmun's Cantina is a must for Star Wars Outlaws to enhance player immersion.
There is little doubt that Star Wars Outlaws has plenty of cameos prepared for fans of the Star Wars saga, like Jabba the Hutt, who has already been confirmed. After all, while Star Wars Outlaws can't fully rely on fan service to be successful, there needs to be fan service to some degree for its world to feel somewhat familiar to those who have immersed themselves in its almost five decades worth of lore and world-building. While the list of Star Wars characters who will be making an appearance in Star Wars Outlaws likely hasn't been disclosed, the odds of it being a fairly lengthy one are high.
As Star Wars Outlaws takes place between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, there is a lot of potential for some of Star Wars' biggest names to make an appearance. That being said, as Massive has created an original experience that it wants to be clearly defined within the Star Wars universe, many of the game's cameos may not feature Star Wars' more famous characters, but rather those that might not yet be household names. However, one particular cameo would undoubtedly be welcomed by all, even those who may not be as dedicated to Star Wars as others are, simply on account of the impact this group of characters has had on the widespread knowledge of the world of Star Wars.

Star Wars Outlaws Should Feature the Cantina Band From A New Hope
Star Wars Outlaws Should Feature a Cantina Band Cameo at Chalmun's Cantina
Aside from the most popular Star Wars songs โ like the Star Wars main theme and "The Imperial March" โ one other music track is almost universally known by Star Wars fans and non-fans alike: "Mad About Me," otherwise known as "Cantina Band." Star Wars composer John Williams considers this Benny Goodman-inspired song to be an anomaly, simply because it is much different than any other music track in the first Star Wars film. Even so, it adds to the immersion of Chalmun's Cantina (Mos Eisley Cantina), as it helped establish the idea that, upon entering the cantina, Luke was stepping into an entirely different world than the one he had come to know.
Chalmun's Cantina on Tatooine has been confirmed as one of the locations players can visit in Star Wars Outlaws, so featuring the famous Bith cantina band, Figrin Daโn and the Modal Nodes, feels like a must. Of course, if the band made a cameo, they would presumably be playing the famous "Cantina Band" song upon their introduction, but Star Wars Outlaws shouldn't stop there. Instead, it should have an entire gameplay feature based on the idea of a band playing music in Star Wars Outlaws' cantinas.
Star Wars Outlaws Should Let Players Choose What Song Is Playing at a Cantina
Many modern games that include bars, diners, or some kind of rest spot allow players to change the background music that plays while they're there โ like the Orchestrion in Final Fantasy 16 or the Hideout music player in Path of Exile. If Star Wars Outlaws happened to feature the famous cantina band from A New Hope, it could also provide players with a feature to change which song is being played. This would also help Kay spend her hard-earned credits in Star Wars Outlaws, as players could perhaps pay each band to play specific tracks. This would, of course, be a feature in each of the game's cantinas and not only in Chalmun's Cantina.
Cantina band's appearance could be the much-needed fan service in Star Wars Outlaws!
At the very least, Star Wars' iconic cantina band should make an appearance in Star Wars Outlaws, even if there is no option to change which track is being played. This would not only function as a bit of fan service but also contribute to the immersion that Star Wars Outlaws claims it will offer players.
